The Lighthouse Trust is a Consumer run NGO providing peer support and advocacy in mental Health through three Community centers in Hawkes Bay New Zealand.
The Trust also provides Consumer advice to the HB District Health Board and at a National level through all agencies applicable.
We realize that hope filled recovery services happen when there is genuine involvement of service users, at every level from funding and planning, to all service delivery. This requires, boutique values based services, tailored to the unique needs of individuals and there surroundings. The deeper the understanding of how people experience using services the more likelihood services will meet their needs. People who experience madness are the experts and leaders in their recovery. Recognizing this expertise means including it, and seeing it as an investment, not a cost.
Madness is often associated with danger which is a myth that we hope one day will be exposed. People who experience madness have the same rights to participate as any other citizen, and the community is a far richer place with us in it. The Light House Trust through running Community Centers, delivering peer support and advocacy services, working with The Human Rights Commission and Mental Health Commission, coupled with senior positions on DHB Advisory groups, aim to instill the fact that consumers are the experts in their recovery and the ultimate recovery of other service users.
We run community Centers in Napier Hawkes Bay
Wairoa Hawkes Bay
Hastings Hawkes Bay.
We also provide Consumer Advise to the HBDHB as well as Peer supoort and Advocacy.
